The in-patient unit at St. Clare’s Hospice provides 24hr Specialist Palliative Care to those who have a life limiting illness and live in the South of Tyne area. Life limiting illnesses include other long term conditions e.g neurological, renal as well as cancer. We have a total of 8 beds, 7 of which are treatment beds, which are for:
Physical, emotional, spiritual and social support and for those in the last days of life.
There is also 1 bed dedicated to respite care. This bed is available for planned respite to enable the carer to take a break for one or two weeks at a time, up to 6 weeks in the year.
All of our staff are dedicated to providing the best possible individualised care to our patients and their carers.
About the In-patient unit:
Each patient room is single occupancy and includes en-suite facilities with either a bath or shower. There are also French doors in each room allowing access to the patio areas. A couple of rooms also have ceiling hoists fitted for those patients who require a little extra assistance with mobility.
We encourage visiting to be kept between 10.30am – 12.30 and 2pm – 8pm to allow the patients to have adequate rest during the day.
