St Clare's Hospice £ottery Ltd.
St Clare's Lottery or £ottery as it was named, commenced in 1996 with the first draw taking place on February 6th of that year.
The lucky £1,000 winner that day was Mr Robinson who was presented with the cheque by Tyne Tees Television's Pam Royle. Mr Robinson shared his winnings with his family but also donated £250 of his winnings back to the Hospice. A very generous gesture.
How many people are involved in the £ottery? St Clare's £ottery has approximately 3,000 members, which means if you were to join the £ottery, then you too could be in amongst the lucky people with a chance of winning one of the many weekly prizes, including the weekly £1,000 First Prize.
What's it all about then? I hear you ask.
The £ottery is drawn every Friday and there are many prizes to be won. To join the £ottery, you will need to complete a simple application form. The customer pays 2 weeks (i.e. £2.00) in advance. These payments can be fortnightly to the collector (if one is available for your area), quarterly, half yearly and yearly on a standing order or by cheque or credit card for a number of weeks in advance.
The customer details are then entered into the main computer and applicants are sent a letter, thanking them for joining and allocating them a membership number along with a six digit £ottery number. This £ottery number is entered into the draw every Friday as long as the customer is up to date in their payments.
If, for any reason, a customer does not pay for a week or number of weeks, the number is retained by the computer but not entered for that draw.
£1 £ottery tickets can be obtained from either the Hospice £ottery shop in Jarrow Precinct, any of the St Clare's Hospice Charity Shops or from the Reception Desk at the Hospice itself.
You cannot accumulate debt!
Each Friday, the draw is made and the computer prints out the winning cheques which in turn are then sent out, first class, to the winners. A list of the winning numbers are on display at the Hospice, in the Hospice shops and usually in the Local Press.
The prizes every week are as follows:
1st Prize £1,000
2nd Prize £100
Plus many £5 winners
Members paying by cheque or credit card will receive a reminder by post when their advance payments are due for renewal.
