Julie's currying favour to raise cash

Breast cancer survivor Julie Dudgeon is hoping people will fancy joining her in an Indian meal after getting the all-clear.

It's been five years since Mrs Dudgeon, from Imeary Street, South Shields, was diagnosed with the disease.

And last week she was discharged from any further attendance at South Tyneside District Hospital.

For the last four years, the thankful mum of two has staged fundraising coffee mornings at The County pub in Westoe, raising cash towards breast cancer research.

This year's event is to be held at the pub on Saturday, from 10am to noon. All funds will go to St Clare's Hospice in Jarrow.

Additionally, she has linked up with the Indian Essence restaurant in Ocean Road, South Shields, to boost fundraising.

The restaurant management has agreed to stage a special charity evening on Wednesday, March 26.

Ten pounds a head will be charged for all starters and main courses – with £5 going towards the fundraising effort.

Mrs Dudgeon, 44, said: "It was good news for me last week when I was discharged and I always like to give something back.

"Myself and my partner are regulars at Indian Essence and they came up with the idea of helping our fundraising.

"Colin Purdy, the manager of The County, has let us have a room at the pub for free, which is great.

"We usually raise about £600, but this year we're hoping to get nearer the £1,000 mark."

All are welcome to attend this month's curry night, with the cheap offer starting from 7pm.
