The medical team are backed by a small team of administrative staff who are responsible for fundraising activities, finance, human resources and secretarial support.

Volunteer Sales Assistant

Description

As Volunteer Sales Assistant you will assist with the day to day running of the St Clare’s Hospice Charity Shops to maximise sales and profitability.

 

Hours available:

Jarrow Shop                                              

Tuesday: 1pm to 4pm                               

Saturday: 9.30am to 4pm                          

 

Fowler Street                                              

Monday: 9.30am to 3.30pm

Tuesday: 9.30am to 3.30pm

Friday: 9.30am to 3.30pm

 

Stanhope Road

Tuesday: 9.30am to 3.30pm

Friday: 9.30am to 3.30pm

 

 Main Tasks:

  • To assist and serve customers in a friendly professional manner providing an elevated level of customer service
  • To assist with processing stock including sorting, pricing and hanging
  • Merchandising of donated goods
  • To promote public understanding of the work St Clare’s delivers and the importance of raising funds though the shops
  • To adhere to safety standards and St Clare’s Hospice Health and Safety policy
  • To maximise Gift Aid donations through the cybertill system

 

Personal Qualities:

  • Effective communication and customer care service skills are essential to fulfil this role
  • Being able to work as part of a team

 

Training Requirements:

  • Induction Day and customer service Training will be delivered at the Hospice
  • Local induction in place of work detailing operational procedures

Volunteer Driver Assistant

Description

The Volunteer Driver Assistant will encourage the public to donate saleable goods, will view and collect re-sellable items from the public and other appropriate sources, and will assist with the collection and delivery of furniture goods.

 

Main Tasks:

  • To be responsible for sorting and moving stock safety
  • To maintain a safe working environment for staff/ volunteers in shops and warehouse area
  • To be conversant with and able to operate van collection procedures and assist with the delivery of items to the customer’s premises
  • To assist with ensuring that the sales area is kept well stocked with goods being    rotated frequently and that merchandise is in a good saleable condition
  • To check quality and condition of goods offered for sale to meet with Trading Standards 
  • To ensure that a high standard of customer service is maintained always
  • To actively promote gift aid amongst customers
  • To ensure a safe working environment is maintained, keeping fire exit routes always clear

 

Personal Qualities:

  • Effective communication skills able to relate to both customers and internal staff and volunteer
  • Previous experience of working within charity shop and /or a retail environment is desirable
  • le to handle/lift heavy items

 

Training requirements:

Volunteer Warehouse Assistant

Description

The Volunteer Warehouse Assistant will assist in the day to day running of the St Clare’s Hospice Charity Shops to maximise sales and profitability to support the Hospice.

 

Hours:

Monday – Friday, 10.00am – 3.00pm, various hours available across all days.

           

Main Tasks:

  • Perform stockroom assistant duties in a warehouse setting
  • Assist stockroom staff in organizing and managing stockroom
  • Implement safety standards when handling stock
  • Ensure compliance of stockroom procedures in handling stock
  • Ensure accuracy in physical verification of the suitability of stock that can be sent to the shop floor
  • Ensure the warehouse is kept clear at all times. No fire doors or extinguishers are blocked by products/items

 

Personal Qualities

  • Good communication skills and customer care service skills are essential to fulfil this role
  • Being able to work as part of a team
  • Able to handle/lift heavy items

Volunteer Receptionists

Description

 Volunteer Receptionist

St. Clare Hospice has an excellent reputation for providing palliative care for patients living with a terminal illness and is keen to build on this by offering an extended range and scale of the services to the population it serves south of the Tyne.

We are currently looking for experienced receptionists to join our team to provide a polite friendly and efficient reception service to all visitors and staff of St Clare’s Hospice.

Hours

Monday – Friday 8.30am – 4.30pm

Monday – Friday 4.30pm – 7.30pm

Sunday – 1.30pm to 5.00pm

Main Tasks 

  • Dealing with patients, visitors and staff either by telephone or in person in a friendly, efficient and courteous manner.
  • To pass on any messages to the relevant person in an efficient and professional manner. 
  • To maintain the Hospice shop and operate the till. 
  • To ensure that all visitors and staff sign in and out at reception
  • Accept responsibility for locking the confectionery, card, drinks and key cupboard at the end of the shift.  Also to ensure that the main switchboard telephone is transferred to the nurse’s station, till is locked and front doors are locked if no one is taking over your shift and return master keys to the nurses’ station.
  • Handling monetary donations and writing appropriate receipt.

Personal Qualities

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Friendly and Polite.
  • Able to work independently. 

Essential Training Requirements

  • Switchboard.
  • Till Operation.
  • General Reception Duties.
