St Clare's Hospice is hoping that the local community will put their best foot forward as part of a new sponsored walk.
The charity will host a Part of your Heart remembrance walk on Saturday 25th March.
Participants will follow a six-mile trek along the South Shields to Seaburn coastal route at sunset.
At the start of the walk, partakers will be given a wooden heart to carry in honour of the person they are completing the event in memory of. On completion of the walk, the hearts will be placed in a picture frame which will be displayed at the Hospice.
The walk begins at the New Crown Hotel, based on Mowbray Road, South Shields, and finishes at the Marriot Hotel in Seaburn. At the end of the event, participants will be served refreshments in the Marriot Hotel.
The event is already proving popular with participants already registered to take part. The charity’s business supporters, including Newcastle Building Society, based in Fowler Street, South Shields are already gearing up to complete the trek.
Vanessa Middleton, Fundraising Manager at St Clare’s Hospice, said: “The Part of your Heart Walk is our first in-memory walk remembering loved ones who can no longer be with us. We used to hold a Midnight Walk for many years but that event was ladies only and had started to lose its popularity. In response to feedback from that event our supporters told us they’d like to take on a coastal route which we thought was a great idea! This event is also open to everyone over the age of 12 and enables more people to take part.”
She added, “If you can’t take part in the walk we also have opportunities for volunteers particularly event marshals and registering walkers as well as helping with some setup of the event.”
Registration for this walk cost £15 per person and is suitable for anyone aged 12 years and over. Those participants aged under 16 years old will need to be accompanied by a responsible adult.
