Each year we receive gifts from supporters which they have left to us in their Will. Over the years we have received some very generous gifts but no matter how big or small, leaving a legacy to your local independent hospice can have a lasting effect.
Types of Legacy
A legacy is a gift you leave in your Will and is something that will only be paid to us after you die. There are lots of different ways to leave a legacy to us:
A residual gift - when you leave all or a percentage of the net value of your Estate
A pecuniary gift - when you leave a set amount of money
A specific gift - when you leave an item, such as jewellery, an antique or even a property
Leaving a legacy sounds like a very daunting prospect; many people believe they have to have thousands of pounds to be able to leave a gift. The truth is that over the years we have received legacies worth anything from £20 to £400,000.
Each legacy received by St Clare’s Hospice helps us to continue providing care to the people in our local area who need our help. Often people believe they have nothing to giv,e but usually that is not the case. A solicitor can advise you how to leave a legacy to St Clare’s Hospice after you have considered any gifts you would like to leave to your family or friends.
We are grateful for each and every person who chooses to remember St Clare’s Hospice with a legacy. If you are considering leaving a gift to us in your Will please contact a local solicitor.
If you have already made a Will you can add a gift to the Hospice by drawing up a codicil (simple addition to your Will). We can provide you with a codicil form. Simply complete, and then send it to your solicitor.
